I’m Annelise, an Arab Studies and Digital & Screen Media Studies double major at Davidson College.
Since I began learning Arabic eight years ago, I have traveled to the Middle East several times, met and befriended individuals from the region and heard their stories, researched Arabic children’s literature and refugee experiences post-resettlement, and worked with various organizations dedicated to that part of the world. I understand the power of storytelling to foster empathy and understanding, and I seek to use my language skills to facilitate those exchanges.
I built my first website in a writing class during my freshmen fall, and I quickly realized the value of digital skills in this day and age. Technology is always developing, so there is always more to learn. From web design to the Adobe Suite, I am continually honing my skills and eager for more experience.
In my free time, I may be found socializing over a cup of coffee, watercoloring in nature, reading a novel (or trying to write one), or knitting mittens while watching Arabic soap operas.
